Stuart & Branigin takes pride in providing our clients with high-quality legal services, and in advancing our state and national reputation for excellence. Looking to the future, we expect to continue enjoying and building upon our successes.

Recruiting outstanding candidates for associate and summer associate positions is therefore critical to our success. We seek individuals with strong academic records who share our dedication to the practice of law and to meeting clients’ needs.

Opportunities for new associates

At Stuart & Branigin, associates can develop their career within a challenging, growing practice in a strong economic environment. As a new associate, you will be exposed to a variety of projects and clients. We will not ask you to enter a specific department, as our practice is not departmentalized. Rather, you will enjoy the opportunity to grow and move into an area of focus as you develop in your professional career with us.

We hire with the anticipation that an associate’s qualifications, skills, and personal strengths will be a good fit for our practice, and that new lawyers will enjoy a long and fulfilling career with us. We encourage associates to assume responsibility early in their careers, and target an associate’s review for partnership consideration after six years of employment. In the meantime, each associate’s performance is reviewed annually.

As an associate, you will be assigned an annual supervising partner, who monitors your workload and progress. Beyond to the guidance of your supervising partner, much of your training will be through hands-on experience working alongside seasoned lawyers. The firm also recognizes the importance of formal training, so each lawyer participates in professional conferences.

Summer associate program
Stuart & Branigin recruits students who have completed their second year of law school for our summer associate program. Through this program – our key recruiting tool for associate hires – we can assess how an individual may fit with our firm, while giving each participant the opportunity to see the advantages and benefits we have to offer.

Summer associates experience much of what our new associates encounter. In addition to research and writing assignments, we give summer clerks the opportunity to observe trials, depositions, and other practical experiences in the day-to-day practice of law. Assignments are monitored and coordinated by supervising partners, but our clerks have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects with many lawyers throughout the summer.
