Deborah B. Trice

Partner, Lafayette

Developing relationships with education and employment clients gives Deborah Trice the insight she needs to provide sound legal advice.

"I enjoy learning about my clients, their businesses, goals, objectives, and problems," says Deb who often helps clients with management-side employment issues.

In the education arena, Deb is a key part of the Stuart & Branigin team that serves Purdue University. She also works on a wide variety of matters for public and private elementary and secondary schools.

During her nearly 20 years as an attorney, Deb has become a trusted counselor who helps clients understand how to avoid litigation. But when necessary, Deb's litigation and appellate experience gives her the insight clients need to defend themselves effectively in the courthouse. She was lead counsel in a case in which the Indiana Supreme Court held for the first time that the state employers such as Purdue are not subject to the Indiana Age Discrimination Act. She has also prevailed on employment discrimination cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. This experience, in combination with defending employers before the U.S. EEOC and the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, provides Deb with the tools to advise her clients about how to comply with federal and state employment laws to minimize the risks of litigation.

Deb frequently shares her hard-earned experience with the community by giving talks on employment-related topics to the Lafayette-West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and similar groups. She also served for several years on the Board of Directors for the Tippecanoe Community Health Clinic and was president of the Board as well as chair of the Clinic's personnel committee.

“…Deb has become a trusted counselor…”
