Stuart & Branigin has served as general counsel to Purdue University since its founding as a land grant college. In addition to the home campus in West Lafayette, Purdue has regional campuses in Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Hammond, and Westville, and the Purdue Statewide Technology Program serves an additional eleven Indiana communities. Purdue is involved in many other activities across the state, throughout the country, and around the globe.
In addition to representing Purdue, Stuart & Branigin serves as Purdue Research Foundation's general counsel. PRF owns and operates Purdue Research Park, the nation's largest university-affiliated business incubator. The Purdue Research Park system plays a major role in economic development throughout Indiana by operating certified technology parks in West Lafayette, Indianapolis, Merrillville, and New Albany that are home to hundreds of businesses and companies that provide highly paid jobs to thousands of people. PRF also is charged with managing intellectual property developed at Purdue.
Because of the size and complexity of the facilities and operations owned and managed by Purdue, PRF, and Purdue's other affiliated foundations, attorneys in our Education group and in our other practice groups are called upon to provide legal advice and services across an extremely wide spectrum, including:
- Board of Trustees matters
- University governance and management
- Employment, including faculty and staff issues
- Litigation and disputes
- Regulatory counseling
- Real estate, development, and zoning
- Business and corporate counseling
- Design and construction
- Intellectual property
- Constitutional matters
- Development and financing
- Sports law
Stuart & Branigin also serves several public, private, and parochial schools, advising them on matters of faculty tenure and staff relations, constitutional questions, governance, privacy, sports law, and other education-related concerns.
We bring to the table exceptional knowledge of the education arena and broad coverage in various legal disciplines – including taxation, business counseling, real estate, design and construction, privacy rights, intellectual property, litigation, and employment law. As a result, we have the capabilities and resources to handle any project our educational clients hand us.
